Something at CVS Pharmacy stopped me dead in my tracks yesterday. Right there at the end of the aisle was a wonderfully impressive display of Limited Edition 2012 Team USA PopTarts. 

Immediately I was transported in my mind to my first childhood house on Wisconsin Avenue as a very little kid.    

For weeks this 5 year old version of myself hounded M for these beautifully iced pastries I saw in the commercials. Finally M caved and for breakfast I had in my hands an enormous iced tablet of deliciousness.

Did I mention it was gargantuan? So much so I experienced my first snack food fail. I think I took about three bites and I was full. I couldn’t climb Mount PopTart.

A few years later when my 10 year old self was playing with G.I. Joe’s and listening to Michael Jackson’s Thriller at our second house on Electric Park Road, I finally ascended Mount PopTart. From that point on they became a regular Snack Fixation at breakfast, after school and late at night.

Today PopTarts are still a favorite of mine, and CVS is offering 3 for $6 so my wallet complied.

Even better… when I checked out, the final price was way below 6 bucks.

Not long after I got home and was watching Team USA Basketball, I needed a snack to tie me over until dinner.

I dropped a couple of these mixed berry tarts in the toaster and I was soon enjoying an Opening Ceremony in PopTart form.

The little red and white crystals are satisfyingly crunching, and the shell of icing is thick and crispy. Just what I’m looking for in PopTarts.

I have a feeling I will easily go through these three boxes of Limited Edition 2012 Team USA PopTarts and make another trip to CVS Pharmacy for more.
